Cybersecurity: Iran and Russia

Yesterday I came across two super interesting articles on blogs I follow, Security Clearance and Threat Level. They were obviously written about two separate topics but are so intertwined I just couldn't ignore them.

The article from Security Clearance was about Iranian cyber-security attacks on the US. Some people believe that Iran doesn't have the savvy to be a real threat, but that they are getting much better at cyber attacks. The recent attacks were aimed at US banks, not necessarily governmental but certainly worth paying attention to.

The article from Threat Level discussed the underground cyber criminals in Russia, who are willing to sell cyber attacks for a shockingly low price. According to TL, ZeuS has even been found on Bank of America's website. Now, criminals are everywhere, but this kind of easy availability on the internet is actually unique.

Without making a giant logical leap, you have to wonder what happens if these two issues collide. Russia and Iran have a very different dynamic than the US would hope for, and if criminals are willing to sell their services for the low, low price of XXX... it seems like a frightening answer.
